Broadway Bliss!

Singing, dancing, comedy, drama, and happiness all in one equals Broadway. Broadway presents a variety of shows from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, to Rent, to The Producers, to Jersey Boys, and just about everything and anything in between. Each show is original and dazzles in its own way.

Broadway plays are something I always wanted to experience and I finally had my chance to now in college. For class I was assigned to go see one Broadway play out of a great amount of choices. The plays that I was able to choose from were Rent, Les Miserables, The Color Purple, Pygmalion, Hairspray, Wicked, and Avenue Q. It was a tough decision, but with the choices all being phenomenal and not being able to make a decision, I chose the play most of my friends were going to see. The decision came down to Rent. I was so excited because I have heard so many great things about this play and many other plays and I did not know what to expect.

Rent, which is written by Jonathan Larson, is an appealing play that is about a filmmaker and a musician who can’t seem to pay their rent. During their process of making it along without electricity and with little money they encounter numerous old friends and new ones that help try to comfort each other. They all have problems of their own from break-ups, to having AIDS, and to dealing with deaths. They all somehow overcome these hurdles and come together to enjoy an appreciate life.

I thought the play was great. There were some incredible singers, one being American Idol contestant Tamyra Gray, who was outstanding. Each cast member put on a serious, yet sometimes-funny act, which was quite entertaining. My favorite character in the play was Angel. Angel was a transvestite/musician who livened up everyone. He made the show fun and exciting to watch.

My experience of my first Broadway play was enjoyable and I can’t wait to head out to NYC to see another one.

Sculpting my life

Art and design is something I love. I’ve always loved coloring, painting, drawing, and doodling, which I probably why I am so interested in art now.

I remember a lot of really amazing projects that I loved to do in design class in middle school and extremely fun and great project from my ceramics class in high school.

I guess I love it because it’s something that is so easy for me to do and something that is usually extraordinary to the eye and viewer. I love the beauty involved in art and the uniqueness of it all. You made nothing into something.

I really enjoyed my ceramics class in high school because I loved being able to create anything I wanted and make it anyway I wanted with my own actual hands. Besides that, the class was overall fun because of the fact that you felt like you were five again and playing with play dough, but this time around I actually wanted to make something important and meaningful, instead of a pink pizza or a blue banana.

In ceramics I made vases, mugs, plates, monsters, monster heads and just about anything else I wanted to make. They were all fun but, I enjoyed making the monster the best because I created it my out of my imagination and I think its one of the best projects I have done. I sketched the model of the monster before actually making it, so when I made the monster and it was coming out exactly the way I sketched it I really felt like I accomplished something. I made something that was on paper come to life.

I have learned over the years that art has become a very important thing in my life, and I hope to have some kind of career in art. It is something that makes me feel talented and accomplished.

What could it be?

Your head is spinning…your body is shaking…your heart is racing…what can it be? It’s the anticipation and the anxiety that most receive from roller coasters.

I love roller coasters. They are something that puts so much fear into you and you get this intense adrenaline rush that eventually turns into a great feeling for people who like roller coasters. Going slowly up the coaster you have a pit in your stomach because you know the time is coming soon when you’ll have to plunge down a good fifty feet or sometimes less or more. The drop is feels like you’re plunging to your death, but you’re of not.

I get a great feeling like I can do anything after coming off a roller coaster. They could be really scary sometimes, but after it’s over you get a real feeling of accomplishment of some sort.

There are some great roller coasters out there and I’ve only had a chance to experience a few, but the few I had gone on were unbelievably fun. I have been on the Incredible Hulk, Dueling Dragons, The Cyclone, El Toro, Superman: Ultimate Flight, Kingda Ka, Medusa, Nitro, Batman, Scream Machine, and Rolling Thunder. All these coasters are unique in their own way. You get a different experience on all of them from whether there are lots of loops or lots of turns or neither of those.

My favorite coaster presently is Nitro. Nitro is an awesome roller coaster that has no loops, but plenty of fast swift turns and a frightening drop, which is my favorite part of the ride. The drop is my favorite part because you literally almost fall out of you’re seat with how steep the drop is and it feels like its going forever. Plus this has to be one of the scariest roller coasters I have been on, which you feel like you aren’t safe in your seat. The best seat on this ride is the front. It’s a scary ride in the front, but for me the scarier the better. I love it though I can’t get enough of that feeling when you’re dropping, and you get that fast wind in your face.

Roller coasters are a blast and sort of a hobby for me. I like to go on the fastest, tallest coasters that have the most loops and turns possible.

The Best Feeling Ever!

I love to do community service when I can. It is something that brings me warmth and happiness knowing I am doing something for someone else. Doing something little for a little amount of time seems like it doesn’t help at all, but I really think it really does. I had a great experience volunteering at the Light the Night Walk that I will not forget.

At the Light the Night Walk there were so many great things going on, but one thing I remember the most was the people that were coming in to walk. I remember this because that day I saw lots of sad faces and lots of happy faces. The sad faces were on people who lost someone very important to them from a blood cancer and the happy faces were one of survivors. That day many emotions were stirred up and it was a very meaningful day to respect loved one who have fought with cancer and won and the many that were being remembered because they fought to the very best of they’re ability. This overall was very memorable for me because my mom had a type of cancer in the blood and she was one of the fighters and winners. That day I could sense the feelings of why the walk is something important to them and I can relate to all of them remembering the good and bad that came and went with the diseases that one has suffered.

Another memorable experience at the Night the Light Walk was blowing up the balloons for the event. This was a great experience because I have never done anything with the Light the Night Walk before and I didn’t know how many people came out to support it, so by blowing up thousands of balloons some for the survivors and others for supporters, I got a great sense of how great of a thing people are doing, just blowing up balloons and realizing that there were many people and more are planning to show up. It was amazing seeing being able to hand out balloons to the survivors. You get a great view of the courageous and thankful people who have almost lost everything.

This was an unforgettable experience that I will always remember. I had a lot of happy times helping out, but also sad times seeing some wear t-shirts of lost loved ones. Overall this made a strong impact on me and I continue to go help out at the Light the Night Walks each year that I can hopefully attend.

The Good and the Bad

Families are the greatest things in the world. They love you, they hate, they fight with you, but most of all they are always there for you. I love my family very much. They are a special part of me that I hope will never change. There are two specific people in my family that have been through a lot, fighting for their life and to death with having so much accomplished. I am very proud to be apart of my family because of these two people, these two people being my grandfather and my mother.

My grandfather started his life in Italy and came to America with very little looking for a better life just like everyone else was. Unlike most the people that couldn’t find a better life, my grandfather did, by working hard. He started out in the pizza business not knowing anything, and learned how to do everything and eventually owned his own pizzeria with one of his close friends. Being an extremely dedicated worker he worked so much that I hardly ever saw him, but I made time to see him every week, even though he came home late at night. My grandfather worked so hard all for his family.

A few years ago I lost my grandfather to cancer. For a few short months he struggled for his life and it was very hard on everyone. It saddens me every time I think about him, but I try to think of the happy memories I was able to share with him. I remember a few times when he would let me help out in his pizzeria, showing me and letting me make pizza. It made me so happy being able to help him. I am very proud of my grandfather because of how he struggled in life with little choices available and then worked to succeed in both business and family. My grandfathers pizzeria is still open today as it’s been for the past thirty years or so and I would love to accomplish something as big as his pizzeria.

My mom is so special to me because she has fought for her life about eight years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer. I was little when she was diagnosed so I didn’t understand much about cancer, but I knew enough to know that my mom was in trouble and that I needed her. My mom used to do everything for my brothers and I so we knew we couldn’t lose her. My mom is the only one we could depend on and she tries to depend on us, but we usually fail, so I admire her for being able to do so. With the good and bad memories that came and went, I am so very thankful that I am sharing more great memories with my mom now. I believe my mom has accomplished so much taking care of us and protecting us three kids by herself, while also trying to take care of herself.

Luckily I was able to share fun memories with both my mother and my grandfather before either one of them got cancer. In the summer of 1999 my grandfather took everyone to Disney World in Florida. It is memorable because it was the first time I had ridden on an airplane and the first time going to Florida and Disney World. I felt scared at first riding on the plane, but then I sat back and watched a movie and before I knew it I started seeing beautiful palm trees for the first time. I remember the fun we had on all the rides in Disney and the wonderful walks we took looking at things we had never seen before. One specific thing I remember about this great vacation was this cool adventurous mini golf course we went to. It was an awesome golf course with lots of interesting holes, where you had to go around things and wait for things to move out of the way in order to shoot. At the end of the game I remember a big oyster shell hole where you had to make a shot in the oysters opening and closing mouth and the best part was that my older brother and I did it and won a free games. It was such an amazing trip and I’m glad I got to enjoy it with my mother and grandfather, while things were still okay.

Clueless???

I am having a lot of trouble deciding what career path I will eventually choose after college, so I recently took a personality test to see where I place in the world. I still had no idea from the test what I wanted to do, but I had quite some interesting options (according to my personality anyway).

I have learned that I have an ISFP personality, which states that I am good with children, animals, and people. I like caring for others as well as caring about myself and the things I do. I also like being original and not being a leader or a follower. There are quite a few jobs that people with this personality could enjoy; they are a teacher, social worker, artist, designer, pediatrician, and a chef. The three jobs I think I can take on are a teacher, designer, and a pediatrician.

I think I can take on being a teacher because I can be patient and I always like to be helpful. I would like knowing that I am teaching kids something that they will have to know the rest of their life. Its nice looking back and realizing, oh I’m glad Mrs._______ taught me that. I always loved school since I was little, I never hated it. I was eager to learn new things and to do new things. Being a teacher was one option I thought of but don’t think I will pursue. I feel like I need a bigger career.

I think I could become a designer because I love creating new things that appeal to the eye. I love seeing something new and different that hasn’t been seen before so I think I could have fun with a job such as designing. Designing seems to have no boundaries, you can take it as far as you could and I think I would like that aspect of the job. I love dealing with color and symmetry and abstract things, its all-just fun and I think that’s what attracts me to it. With designing you could go one way and do something that’s very symmetrical or do something very abstract. But whatever you pick both are extraordinary in their own way. I think the fact that you can be right if you do something a different way each time attracts me to the job. I think I would love to pursue a job in designing.

I think I would be able to take on the job of a pediatrician because I am interested in health and love children, so what better job to have then to help children with their health. I’ve always loved kids probably cause I love being one, which is why I think I can handle this job. I like kids outlook on things and I like the way kids try to handle themselves. They want to seem invincible and do a very good job at trying to accomplish that. That’s why I would probably enjoy caring for the children so I could help keep them invincible for as long as possible.

All in all I’m still clueless and I hope I come up with a clear vision of what I want to be soon.

Steriods Again?

I’m not pleased at all to have recently found out that in baseball steroids are still a big issue and that the players haven’t learned not to take them, after several incidents of old steroid use occurred a few time already. The recent report of a major amount of baseball players using steroids is very disappointing me. According to ESPN and newspapers I have heard that about thirty MLB players have been found to use steroids of some kind. The players that have possessed this drug may become suspended, unlike before when players were tested positive and had no serious penalties. They only had a brief suspension.

I thought to become a professional athlete meant that you were a talented hard worker who earned a deserved spot on a team, but I m coming to realize a lot of them are cheating and I don’t like it. I am a big sport fan and to see this is disappointing. I just hope to find out in the upcoming release of some big names of steroid users or growth hormone users doesn’t turn out to be players I admire dearly. I put so much hope, loyalty, love and belief out there, when watching some of my favorite players and to possibly find out they abused their privilege of being a professional baseball player would be devastating to me, as I’m sure to many others. Some of the main people I love to watch because I think they are true professional of the game of baseball are Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Roger Clemens, Jorge Posada, and Johnny Damon, as well s a few others. I truly hope that they are not cheats, which I don’t think the are, and hopefully all will be well with all my favorites, so that I am not left HEARTBROKEN.
